Beacons of Light Scholarship

Thank you for taking the time to apply for the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Brunswick’s (ILCB) Beacon of Light Scholarship. The awards are given as a result of a deep commitment on the part of our church community that education makes us better stewards of our world and better members of our community. Educationis a tool that you can use for your entire life. Learning how to learn will make you a more useful member of your community.

ILCB has established three distinct scholarships:

  1. Peterson Memorial Seminary Scholarship - Designed to assist seminary students during their Master of Divinity Program

  2. Lutheran College Matching Scholarship - Designed to be used for matching grants or scholarships at any of the Colleges of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) locations

  3. Higher Education Scholarship - Designed to assist students attending accredited schools of higher education other than the Colleges of the ELCA

These awards are designed to assist you with your overall college expenses. ILCB established a Scholarship Committee that will review all scholarship applications and make a recommendation to the Church Council for final approval. Please be mindful of the application requirements and timelines.

Application Process:

  1. All applicants must be members of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Brunswick

  2. Applicants must pursue or intend to pursue advanced education and training beyond high school on a full or part-time basis

  3. Applicants must maintain a minimum of a 2.75 grade point average throughout the program

  4. Scholarships will be distributed at the end of the first quarter each year that the scholarship is awarded. A transcript must be submitted to the Scholarship Committee before any funds will be distributed

  5. All applications must be received on or before April 30th of each year. Late applications may not be given any consideration. Once the applications have been received, the Committee will meet and make recommendations to the Church Council for consideration

  6. The Peterson Memorial Seminary Scholarship may also require the student to be a “Guest Preacher” during the year that the award is received
